Becoming proficient in operating these machines is an essential and valued operator’s skill for any contract, large or small.
At the end of this course, you will have proved your ability:
- 1Identify the health and safety requirements for abrasive wheel operation
- 2Carry out a risk assessment and implement control measures, including emergency procedures
- 3Understand the legislative requirements and responsibilities of abrasive wheel operations
- 4Understand the characteristics of abrasives and their uses
- 5Understand and interpret the marking system of abrasive wheels
- 6Understand how to handle and store abrasive wheels
- 7Understand how to select and check abrasive wheels before use
- 8Understand and identify what speeds should be adhered to in wheel selection
- 9Identify the main components and understand their functions
- 10Mount an abrasive wheel and /or a diamond wheel
- 11Understand the difference between truing and dressing a wheel (bench grinders)
- 12Dress a wheel and identify dressers (bench grinders)
- 13Adjust work rests correctly (bench grinders)
- 14Use operating precautions and be aware of avoiding hazardous conditions
- 15Carry out daily maintenance on petrol powered machines (disc cutter and cut-off saws)
- 16Operate the equipment in a safe and appropriate manner.
Abrasive Wheels
This training course has been developed to help you understand how to operate an abrasive wheel machine safely.
The amount of instruction you will require will depend largely upon your previous experience and sessions will be adapted to meet your needs. Course duration will depend on experience.
The training course will consist of theory and practical sessions, followed by assessment.
If successful in meeting the required standards assessed, you will be awarded a certificate of competence which is valid for 3 years.
